Why Blog??
There are plenty of reasons to "blog". It really becomes about what reason you choose as an individual. Before I created my own, I decided to research others blogs to see what types of things people put on their blog sites and how that might look for me as a school leader. What I discovered is that people don't really have to have a reason. Some people seem to use it just because they have something to say, like a personal journal or diary that you don't care if people read. In fact, you hope that they do. There are others that just enjoy writing. It was amazing to see how many people have a true gift for words without ever having been published. Some people use it to discuss issues with others, seek others opinions, almost in a debate forum. Some blogs focus on being a part of something bigger, a group or club of other people that enjoy something that you enjoy; where you can network and talk about your common interests. Hobbies or a particular line of work might be examples of this. Some people are experts on a particular topic and use their blog to share what they know with the world. Best of all, it is a way to keep a permanent record (if you choose) of what you are reading or thinking that you can refer back to at any time (so can others). These are the types of people that write for themselves, not for what others think or say. They aren't concerned with how many followers they have or what others post on their page, they write because they want to. The bottom line is, why not blog? What can it hurt? I think that for all of the same reasons that other people post blogs is the same reason why a school leader should post. It could lead to great opportunities to network with others, debate school issues, seek others opinion; help others by sharing expert knowledge in some particular area. It all remains true whether you are a school leader, lawyer or engineer. The main thing is remaining true to you.
